Liz Phair (born Elizabeth Clark Phair on April 17, 1967 in New Haven, Connecticut) is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. Phair's entry into the music industry began when she met guitarist Chris Brokaw, a member of the band Come. Brokaw was visiting her San Francisco loft-mate Nora Maccoby when he heard Phair's songs, and encouraged her to record them. After moving back to Chicago, Phair began writing songs and recording homemade tapes under the name Girly Sound, and supported herself by selling her drawings on the streets of Chicago. She soon became apart of the alternative music scene in Chicago and became friends with Material Issue and Urge Overkill, two of Chicago's upstart bands to go national in the early 1990s, as well as Brad Wood and John Henderson, head of Feel Good All Over, an independent label in Chicago.

Go, Speed Racer Lyrics

Liz Phair

Dont give me that sucker fish shit
Your love life aint that hurting
And you always seemed to get what you wanted without flirting
Youre not the only one whos used to playing dirty
And all I ever wanted from you is to leave me alone
So dont give me that sucker fish shit
cause Im not that strong a swimmer
But Im not afraid to be moving in a slower river
Youre not the only one who used to watch speed racer
The very first car in a race around the world
Is somewhere in the middle of a race around the circle
And the very first car in a race around the world
Has got to wipe out somewhere
Well, that somewhere isnt me
So dont give me that sucker fish shit
cause Im not getting younger
And Im not a floatable to keep you from going under
And youre not the only one who used to watch speed racer
The very first car in a race around the world
Is somewhere in the middle of a race around the circle
And the very first car in a race around the world
Has got to wipe out somewhere
Well, that somewhere isnt me
